Mindful Meditation Reduces Stress and Anxiety

Many people meditate to reduce stress and anxiety problems. What the evidence says about the health benefits of meditation?

After reviewing 18,753 persons, there is evidence that mindful meditation had moderate evidence of improved anxiety.  Researchers say we should consider the potential benefits of mindful meditation with their patients.

Mindfulness meditation is a form of Buddhist self-awareness. The practice teaches to be present in each moment. You have to focus attention on what is happening now and accepting it without judgment.
Another recent study describes the psychological effects of meditation. 5-15 minutes a day caused an average 43% increase in telomerase activity within body cells, relative to a control group, suggesting an improvement in stress-induced aging. Mindful meditation can affect genes and brain activity in people experiencing chronic stress.
